An artist is driven by two forces, the love of engaging in the creative process, and pretention! Creating art is an act of love and courage! It is an act of love because artists possess an innate need to produce their work, it is an itch that must be scratched. It is an act of courage because the artist bears all for their audience to inform and impress. Artists bravely climb into the ring to face their own insecurities, frustrations, and doubts in the hope that their work will be recognized and appreciated.
Upon retiring from a 35 year career in higher education, I am finally allowing myself to fully embrace the creative process and hopefully add my unique reflections to our shared human experience. My Story
New to the Charlotte artistic community, my initial work has concentrated on mastering fundamental techniques of drawing and painting through learning from art history and contemporary practitioners. I favor figurative work, landscapes, and still lifes inspired by life and found design. I am particularly moved by portraiture, and I am striving to capture the personality and energy of my subjects.
My art takes inspiration from the artistic/historical/social observations of Realism artists (Daumier, Millet, Courbet), the Impressionists (Degas, Manet, and Monet) and Post-Impressionists (Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Cezanne), to confront today's viewer by drawing parallels between the past and the challenges facing the contemporary world.
